MORAL is a pioneer in Madeira, being the region's first legalized space for urban art. This model, already established worldwide, effectively channels artists' creativity while fostering respect for public spaces. Its importance has been recognized by media outlets such as Diário de Notícias da Madeira and RTP Madeira.
MORAL is an open-air urban art gallery, freely accessible to everyone, whether to visit or create. Open 24/7 all year round, it features a legal wall for urban art, similar to projects in cities like Lisbon, Barcelona, Paris, and Berlin.

April 2025 - Lisbon Portugal

I had the not so bright idea to walk from Praça do Comércio  to the 25 de Abril Bridge because it looked so close!! NOT!

Cais do Sodré is an area in the center of Lisbon, Portugal, between Cais da Marinha and Cais do Gás. This name is shared by two railway stations and a ferry station in Lisbon.

It was also a pretty boring walk brightened up by murals and we had a good lunch under the bridge.

Brazilian artist @dankaumbert Danka Umbert

The mural features one of Portugal’s most recognizable landmarks, the “25 de Abril'' bridge, a name that reflects the date of the revolution that set the country free from 48 years of dictatorship. It represents values of freedom and connection, echoing the desires of open-minded people who believed in a brighter future. It is a message of hope supported by social and industrial progress. A testament to the idea that nothing is gained without tolerance, resilience and love shared as a united community, and how our everyday actions are what cultivate and preserve this legacy.

Julien Raffin (1985) is a French artist based in Paris expressing his visual creation through the medium of analogue collage and playing with historical and cultural references, in rupture with our contemporary lives. His work offers a poetic and dynamic narrative where compositions in colour and black & white come into opposition, revealing the contrast and dissonance between the past and the present in a disruptive harmony.

April 2025 - Funchal, Portugal

A couple of murals captured on the hop on hop off bus tour.

Artist: @barbaragilp - mural painted Bárbara Gil. Zapruder is the name given to this painting and comes from the Bell and Howell machine, as it was with a machine like this that Zapruder filmed the assassination of JFK.

On the façade of the Hotel Baía Azul you will find a mural by the artist Bárbara Gil, painted to pay tribute to chefs through the representation of a modern chef, open to the world through his profession and technology.

Marcos Milewski (1959) is a painter of Polish origin and Argentinian-French nationality. He was born in Cordoba, Argentina. Nowadays, he lives and works in Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal.

The Fantastic World of the Portuguese Sardine.

In addition to tasting great, and feeding the Portuguese people through the decades, sardines provide a variety of health benefits. Unlike many other fish we eat, sardine feed on plankton, which means they contain lower levels of mercury than other popular seafood.
