235 : Greetings and handshakes : pipes and politicians

March 1984 - Montreal QC
I'm going with Greetings this week. This was a surprise 80th birthday party for my grandfather. He did smoke a pipe for some time but I couldn't find any photos reflecting that.

  1. Fine greetings for an octogenarian. Good show & a very nice looking family.

  2. Love looking back at old photos. I would have guess the '80s without seeing the year. Love those hair styles.

  3. Wow...look at that fur coat! My Mom had two of them now turned into Teddy Bears for her great, great grandchildren. Actually every woman in our family owned one and they always smelled like moth balls. I'm sure your grandfather loved the party!

    1. Funny you should say that. I had to come and look and yes, they are sisters!! But I don't think they meant to look similar.

  5. Great nostalgia from the outfits and hairstyles of the 80s. I'm sure your grandfather enjoyed his surprise party...as well as everyone else. I am happy to see the photos of people getting ready for the pose, which always is a bit of a rumble getting set up...and shows the true nature of the folks and their relationships between each other.

  6. Wonderful way of getting all the generations together. We did the same for both my parents on their 90th.

  7. We had a surprise 80th for my dad too - so glad we did. But I can't help laughing at those balloons -- maybe it was near the end of the evening as some of the balloons look a little deflated.

  8. I assume that is the birthday boy in the doorway, but he doesn't feature in the other two shots. Was he avoiding the limelight, not wanting to be photographed much?

  9. Always nice to get the family together for a happy occasion, and to have the photos as keepsakes.
