Tuesday Treasures

Tom hosts Tuesday's Treasures.

April 2017 - Toronto ON

I took one look at Tom's first photo last week and thought we have one of his sculptures right here in Toronto. Googled it, and I was right it is by Tom Otterness. I headed out this week to capture it.

It is located at the foot of Yonge St. by Lake Ontario.

Tom Otterness is famous for his whimsical, almost cartoon figures which are larger than life and sculpted out of bronze.

"Immigrant Family", stands about 10 feet high, depicts a trio of the New York's sculptor's trademark tomato-shaped humans, a husband, and wife with their infant cradled in her arms.

The immigrant family is such a classical story of coming into the new world and looking outward towards the future. Toronto was a centre for immigration into Canada and the US.

  1. ...Otterness sure has a style of his own! Once you know, you can tell that it is his work at first glance. Thanks Jackie for sharing this treasure, please stop back again.

  2. He also has one or two out in St. Louis.
