A Smorgasbord of Sights

We headed to Montreal around 9:30 in lots of summer cottage traffic.
We got to the West Island to drop some gluten-free items from Nate's and had dinner with family before heading into the city to check into our hotel, learning it was Pride weekend and the parade was a block from us!

Montreal is just one large orange construction cone! It is absolutely ridiculous how much is being torn up, down, fixed and built. There is not a street without some orange.

We then headed to the Old Port for Cité Mémoire, where large-scale video projections conjure up characters from the past on the walls of Old Montreal.

John, this one's for you, since we didn't get to see it.

This exhibit was magnificent! This photo tries to give you a feel of how large these projections are.

And it wouldn't be Montreal without hockey.

Some shots around the Old Port.

We had breakfast at Paris Crepe, omelets. We were going to walk around but then decided that since they were setting up the Pride Parade we would check that out instead.

Then we had to get dressed up to go to a Confirmation. Traffic was just horrific.

Two drivers set their GPS to get to the restaurant. Both took the strangest, most convoluted route possible. Over the Lachine Canal, up Cote de Liesse, by Montreal West then NDG before going south to the canal where to restaurant was located.

There was also a birthday celebrated with a Friends cake.

Back at the hotel and into comfortable clothes we went for a walk.

Museum of Contemporary Art, where we saw the Leonard Cohen exhibit in January.

At night this building displays images of iconic musicians.

Monday

John golfed with his son and I went wandering with my camera. I saw a few churches, murals, sculptures, buildings and lunch.

Dominion Square building, now a tourist office on the main level.

The outside of the building.

Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral.

Sir John A Macdonald, our first prime minister.

St.  George Anglican.

Inside Montreal's tallest building, is a skating rink.

1000 de la Gauchetière is Montreal's tallest building. It rises to the maximum height approved by the city (the elevation of Mount Royal) at 215 m (709.5 ft) and 51 floors.

Some performing arts complex buildings.

KPMG mimicking Christ Church Cathedral which is in front of it.

Up to Sherbrooke and the campus of McGill University.

I stopped for lunch at Mike's in Complex Desjardins, a long time favourite sub place.

SUPERSTAR Sliced steak, mozzarella cheese, capicollo, mushrooms, pepperoni, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, spices and herb-flavored olive oil.

Back to rest my hot, tired feet before we headed out to a family dinner.

Tuesday
Tuesday Treasures

We checked out, drove to the West Island and had a great breakfast at Brasserie le Manoir. Then the drive home with occasional rain.

We had perogies for dinner.

Wednesday

We went to Longo's because they had 4-packs of striploin steaks, buy one pack get one free they also had this on prosciutto. We ended up saving $50.
But no ground pork, odd.

Then a stop at Canadian Tire for such excitement a bucket and new kitchen garbage pail. But the bucket was $14 and it was packed with double that in cleaning supplies. The garbage pail had a sign saying $39 but rang in as $20. So a day of savings.

I went to another Longo's and no ground pork either, butcher said they were "shorted". What to do? I needed it for my sauce, so I bought some Italian sausage and used that meat.
I made a batch of Bolognese sauce for dinner with enough to freeze for a couple more meals.

Thursday

We headed out at 10 to drive to Niagara on the Lake as we had theatre tickets.

It is such a pretty little town full of gorgeous historical houses. Between two theatres and bus tours and other tourists it was teeming making it difficult to maneouver.

After the show we had dinner and then drove back to Toronto, home about 8:30.

Friday
Weekend Reflections

John went golfing late afternoon, I did mundane chores like laundry and a quick trip to the grocery store for vegetables.
Pork ribs were $3.99 regular $6.99. I also finally got some ground pork.

Steak, baked potato, sauteed vegetables for dinner.

  1. Nice photos. You're right about NOTL. Elbow pads are necessary to manoeuvre down Queen Street in the summer months. It's wearing a bit thin by the end of August.
