CASA BOHO

Linking up with Marg at The Intrepid Reader

 July 2023 - Toronto ON

Saturday Canada Day and another smoky one.
We got some chores done, tidied up the balcony, put the plant stand out there, took some stuff to the locker (good red bin)  and garbage (red leaking bin and old trellis), packed up some charity stuff, semi-tidied middle/spare/gym/crafts room, actually getting rid of/sorting some stuff.
I also ordered new sheets and a duvet, I needed a change.

Sunday smoky and rainy then fogged in!
I spent two hours on the phone with an elderly friend who is in a retirement home. We always have good chats.
I washed a few things that only get washed sometimes, the bedroom chair cover, hall mat and throw.
Kitchen light got replaced along with the air filter.

Monday was a holiday for Canada Day. Monday Mural was from last week at City Hall.

John headed out to golf, it looked like the rain had passed over. Some turkeys on the course.

I decided to take the streetcar (no shuttle bus on a holiday), I wanted to go to Joe Fresh (didn't buy anything) and stopped at Loblaw's, no wonder we never shop there, the prices are atrocious.

It turned out to be a beautiful afternoon and I did some poking along Queen W and into Graffiti Alley.

A quiet spot in the alley.

That blue mural is by Uber 5000, I wrote about it here.

This mural is an Instagram Moment! There are a lot of selfies taken against it. Also by Uber 5000.

I discovered this new condo, Waterworks, which has a large food hall, I didn't go in because it is a holiday. I do plan to as it has a coffee shop I am interested in.

A bit of nostalgia flows from the site as the 13-story structure combines elements from the original historic 1930s Heritage brick building (a former utility company).

Pardon my finger! Roti Palace.

Tuesday Signs from Distillery District, a couple of weeks ago.

We were invaded by Spiderman spraying.

Carmine and Vince came to replace the damaged blind, so good to see them!

I went to Longo's and $ store.

Utility box has been newly painted.

We love this bacon so I stocked up/

My new duvet, I now need to source some new cushions/covers/material.

Wednesday there was a heat warning.
We chose Egglicious as our breakfast location, and we won't be back. If you are interested (and many were) in quantity over quality, it might work for some. Service is passable. The place has a slight feel of "not quite clean".
I said I didn't want fries so she asked if I wanted tomatoes. There did not have any gluten-free bread.
The bottom of my western was so soggy.

This is a sign I am more accustomed to seeing on billboards as we drive through the States "Eat More Chikin", Chick-fil A is located in the newly built/opened Well, another spot I need to visit.

I took a book down to our grounds and read for a while.

Thursday John took the car in to get the windshield replaced along with new wipers and rain guard. He took the bus back and got this utility box on Lake Shore.

Friday John did a Costco run. I cut some baby spiderettes off two of my plants and rooted them in water.

Looking towards the lake as we waited for the bus, it was very hot.

We headed to the courthouse to see if there were any trials to watch, but it was Friday afternoon and it was deadly quiet, we'll go back another day.

Cutting through Osgoode Hall to get some shade.

Toronto Outdoor Art Fair

The problem is the lack of shade! The tents don't help as they trap the hot air.

John hadn't seen the new art on the Toronto sign.

Elicser! We actually talked to him!
This was the only shaded area, with a breeze.

Old City Hall.
As of May 29, 2023, this location no longer operates as a courthouse. All adult matters previously heard at this location (except bail) will be heard at 10 Armoury Street.

Union Station.

So hot, we deserve a caramel ribbon crunch creme frappuccino!

COOKING
Saturday roast pork roast potatoes and cauliflower and broccoli;

Sunday rice paper spring rolls with leftover pork leftover pork with gravy, asparagus and mashed potatoes/cauliflower.

Monday burgers - I never buy frozen burgers but we picked these up at Metro and we decided they were good and we should do that in the future, they make a perfect quick dinner, cooked from frozen. $15.99 for 6 = $2.67 a burger.

Wednesday fish chowder coconut shrimp and salad as it was too hot for soup! I bought Longo's large fresh water shrimp (on sale for $17 - we usually buy Costco) and we did not like them, too large and mealy.

Thursday chicken teriyaki skewers (haven't made them in forever!) and salad

Friday t-bone (Metro) steak sandwiches with onions, green peppers and mushrooms

WATCHING
I watched the first two episodes of the 7th and final season of Endeavour.

We finished season 6 of Empire and started the series Fatal Attraction.
An affair threatens the lives of Dan Gallagher and his wife, Beth, in this reimagining of the 1987 movie, exploring marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes toward strong women, personality disorders and coercive control.
Don't worry, there isn't any boiled bunny scene.

READING

I finished The Perfect Couple, this was a quick read after jury duty and it worked as long as I didn't delve too much into the plot line as it is not very original. The ending is a twist that appears out of nowhere.

Zero Days I normally like Ruth Ware's books, but this is taking too long to get anywhere. The main character, Jack, is not likeable. It might work better as a movie.

I started Code Name Sapphire, it just feels like it could have been a better book without the love triangle. I am not a big fan of romantic melodrama.

  1. Bargain bacon. I had to enlarge to ensure that was kilos and ot pounds.
My duvet is a handmade one of its kind. I am going to hate the day when I have to try and find something I like as much to replace it. The business where I bought it has long gone. It might be a long search online.

  4. Your blog post is a visual delight this week! Your city would be a fantastic place to walk and photograph...but maybe when the weather gets a little cooler. It brightens my day just seeing all the murals and art.

I love the new duvet. Just my sort of colors!

  6. Oh how lovely is that little alley garden???

Those murals are just amazing. I love the one with the little fishies.

Now THAT is the kind of apartment / condo building I need to live in. One with a food hall!!!

I love how you guys incorporate the old buildings into the new instead of destroying them like we do here. Sigh.

    Love the rainbow "Original" building.

Love the utility box. We have ones here that are painted as well. Love seeing them.

    Mmm bacon!!!

Mmm Chick-fil-A! I made myself a copycat spicy Chick-fil-A in the air fryer just today!

Imagine having such a beautiful place to sit and read without having to drive anywhere.

Wow...you ain't kiddin' about the lack of shade at that art fair.

I'm sad about the old City Hall. :-( What will they use it for now?
