New Treats

Saw a woman eating something strange on Dundas this week and discovered it was a unicorn taiyaki. I peeked in the window and it is was busy, definitely we will have to check it out!

I promise we'll be up to more exciting things as the weather gets nicer!

Saturday

Six Word Saturday Chapala Mexico

YUM fried ham for breakfast! Masters' weekend so John was glued to the TV.

We're slowly redoing our bedroom into a Mexican decor. I still need to work on the pictures.

Me, ensconced for the afternoon with my laptop, phone.

Garlic butter shrimps with cauliflower rice for dinner.

Sunday
Inspired Sunday Guadalajara Mexico
One Word Sunday Barcelona Spain
Lens-Artists Photo Challenge

A rainy day. I had ground beef so John requested chili for dinner. I also cooked the shrimp shells for a fish broth.

Monday
Foto Tunes Memphis TN
Monday Mural Guanajuanto Mexico
Wordless Ireland

I went to pick up a "real" hard copy library book because they didn't have it in an electronic version!

Another local coffee chain opening in Royal Bank plaza.

I have had a hankering for chicken pot pie and had a box of Bob Red Mill's gluten free pie pastry which I've used before, however it was a massive fail this time.

Tuesday

We finally went to the movies! It was packed with seniors, I swear they were worse than a bunch of kids with their chatter!!

Fabulous! Hotel Mumbai which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. It vividly recounts the 2008 siege of the famed Taj Hotel by a group of terrorists in Mumbai, India.

Wednesday
ABC Wednesday

Before heading out I made this healthy carrot cake with cream cheese icing. A keeper.

Well, spring has finally sprung at City Hall.

I had planned to go to the Textile Museum to test my new phone camera. However, there was only one floor open, the bead exhibit which I had seen. But the entry fee was half price so I headed in anyway.

From there I walked along the north side of Dundas West and discovered a block of new Asian restaurants including the ice cream place above.
This area is becoming the new Japantown.

This one was so new it still had its flower displays still up. Called Artisan Plus it is owned by Artisan Noodle and that looks delicious.

Next door is Butter Baker.

And then Pablo Cheese Tart. All art definitely worth a trip.

I used up the pork tenderloin I had in this recipe slow cooker pork tenderloin. I had made it a few weeks ago. I served it with cauliflower rice and carrots. But I think that it would be better with mashed potatoes as the gravy is great.

Thursday

I met my BFF and we poked in the stores and had lunch together.

I found another Asian place I want to try on Yonge St. they do Taiwanese fried chicken.

Toronto is in the midst of sports fever at the moment, between basketball and hockey.

Roast chicken, potatoes and carrots for dinner.

Friday

Good Friday, as always, a rainy day. Almost everything closes down for the day so we worked on the final document for our upcoming trip to make sure we have all our bookings lined up.

  1. Paperboy is new to me ... I'll have to see if my library has it. I definitely DO remember the 70s. Ha!

Love your Mexican vibes -- so colorful and inviting. That bead exhibit is something I'd love.

We had our first ice cream of the season from a local dairy just this past week. YUM. And I've bookmarked that pork tenderloin recipe. Looks really good.

  3. LOVE your bright bed covering and the Frida Kahlo pillow. Have you considered having some of your beautiful photos enlarged and printed on canvas? One of my friends has done that with her hiking pictures and loves the effect.
Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment.

    1. Oh, yes, Sandra, we have many of our photos hanging on our walls, either as posters or canvas or even just prints. I'm planning on doing some Mexican ones for our bedroom which will mean some rotation.

  4. A blogger here stayed at that hotel some years after the massacre and it only occurred to when seeing the film that many of the staff who served her etc, would have been there when the massacre happened. I believe the film is quite graphic.

Pun intended, it looks like Toronto is springing into life.

    1. Yes, it is a very graphic movie. I spent a lot of time flinching.
I'll admit I came home and looked up the room rates as I would stay there if I ever get to India.

  6. These Taiyaki's look to die for! Are they called that way because of the fish cone? Love the colors of your bed room/ Diego Rievera (Kahlo's husband) has some nice prints of his Calla lilies, and of course Frieda Kahlo has some nice ones. On the other hand you can make in the room eclectic and have one of your favorite art:) Being Dutch I love cheese, so I would like to try the Pablo cheese art in a heartbeat! Still have displayed several interesting things of your week, Jackie - thank you for linking them to All Seasons. Also, your well wishing for my hubby is appreciated:):) Have a marvelous week!

  7. I ate a delicious Japanese meal of sesame fried chicken and sashimi a couple hours ago, yet, I find myself drooling at every dish you mentioned. Now I moan that we have no place in town to purchase shrimp that I trust or that I have not a slow cooker to make a pork tenderloin. I turned the one I had into a rubber plant planter. Oh well. I love the bright colors of your bed cover and pillows.
