Fall Cabbages

Royal York Hotel Front St. Toronto

October 2018 - Toronto ON

Saturday

Pink Saturday Humber Bay
Six Word Saturday Liberty Village
Weekly Photo Challenge Down a Random Road in Ontario

We made a trip to our very local, fantastic, probably best deli in the city, Cheese Boutique today. They've done some renovations and it feels more roomy.

The selection is incredible. I found kaffir leaves for the first time. They are used in a lot of Thai recipes.

And the pasta! This is just part of the wall. And I found the gluten free noodles that we like.

These are all gluten free.

So pretty!

OK what we actually came for, cheese.

Choosing a manchego.

I made these chewy pumpkin oatmeal cookies, I didn't quite have a 3/4 cup of pumpkin puree left so used apple sauce to make up the difference and also added some raisins. These were given an A+ by John and I was told they were a keeper.

Dinner was wine, cheese and pate and a movie.

One Word Sunday Golden
Lens-Artists Photo Challenge Just for fun - food art
MZTV Museum TV museum we visited in Liberty Village last week

Our usual down day, relaxation and play.

Dinner was even lazy, chicken legs thrown in the oven with potatoes, carrots and mushrooms.

I finally finished the draft of our Spanish itinerary and John is reviewing it. I have printed off the required documents from the tour company.

I've been watching some of Jamie Oliver's 15 minute dinner episodes and decided I wanted the cookbook. I don't buy books normally but cookbooks are a quilty pleasure for me so I picked it up.

I made these peanut butter blondies , gluten free and flourless, another keeper.

Cee's Fun Foto Challenge Place People Live

Tuesday Photo Challenge Slippery

Finally a sunny day going to a high of 10 C!
I had booked (free) tickets to Unzipped, that mysterious structure I had seen a few weeks ago.
I was reading Twitter on Sunday and someone mentioned going to Unzipped with a selfie in front of the "mystery solved" building!

First spotted Oct 3.

For its first appearance in North America, The Serpentine Gallery is bringing London’s famous “Unzipped” exhibit to Toronto.

According to Canadian development firm and culture company Westbank, it has reconstructed the 2016 Serpentine Pavilion downtown, bringing it back to life in the public realm as it begins a multi-city tour.

The Pavilion itself is made of 1802 stacked fibreglass ‘bricks’, stands 14 metres (46 feet) tall at its apex, 27 metres (88.5 feet) long and 12 metres (39 feet) wide, and was was disassembled in London following its 2016 run by the Serpentine Gallery and transported to North America for re-assembly in Toronto.

At the entrance of the Pavilion, visitors will be introduced to the concept of Gesamtkunstwerk — or total design — a philosophy re-invigorated and employed by Westbank in all of its projects — and one which BIG models in its own practice. The design philosophy will come to life as visitors wander through the exhibition.
Organizers say that the presence of the pavilion changes as you move around it and through it.

The artwork, designed by one of the world’s leading architecture firms, BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group, will be temporarily located at King and Brant Streets and will open to the public throughout its Fall 2018.

Toronto model to be built on this property.  KING TORONTO will consist of 4 'mountains' rising as high as 17 storeys and containing approximately 480 condominium suites. Lower levels will include a public courtyard in the middle of the site, linking the vibrant King West area via a new park to The Well, another Allied project that it is currently constructing with other partners a block to the south, plus retail and restaurant space, and office space. Several heritage buildings on the site are being retained, with the new build essentially bridging over them.

LEGO - Denmark

We got some really cool shots around the building.

Then lunch at Burger's Priest at the King St. location - the best burger in town and they have a gluten free bun.

A sobering campaign began today for drivers and cyclists.

I took John up to Richmond to see this mural that I had posted back in July.

Another mural in progress on Spadina.

Dinner homemade shrimp pho! No one recipe, just looked at a bunch and then chose the spices, garlic, ginger, Thai red chili sauce, and the kaffir lime leaves I FINALLY found at the Cheese Boutique.
John proclaimed this soup to be an authentic Asian soup.

Wednesday
ABC Wednesday Letter Q

John cancelled his golf game due to the rain but headed out to lunch with a friend.

I wandered downtown and Union Station had a mural up for the movie The Nutcracker.

As I came out of the subway at Queen this busker was playing.

The Bay is getting ready to reveal its Christmas window displays on November 1.

Over at City Hall they are putting up the decorations and getting the skating rink ready.
I had read that it would be orange for Halloween but I guess that will be in the evening.

Walking through Osgoode Hall.

Down into the subway at Osgoode

West to Royal York and this.

Started a sauce for dinner sauteeing garlic, onions, mushrooms and spices all afternoon. Added beef broth and then cut up some leftover steak with green pepper, broccoli and snow peas with noodles.

  3. Oh that we could have some of your rain. That is quite some deli. I wonder how much like the architect's model will the building look like, especially the greenery.
