Monday Mural

I'm linking up at Monday Mural hosted by Oakland Daily Photo.

October 2016 - Toronto ON

A new mural being painted near us. These are drive by shots as we almost never walk over this way, The underpass is at a busy intersection that also has an entrance to the expressway.

I hope to get a complete photo when it is finished.

Lake Shore Blvd used to be home to the old motels but they have all been replaced by lofty condos. In the late 1950s clinging to Humber Bay, this strip of lakeside properties brimmed with confidence, promising the transitional comforts of television, in-ground (but naturally unheated) pools, and stunning views of a city that had yet to embrace fun.

There is a room key from the Lakeshore View Motel depicted.
Also the Blue Swallow.

Seahorse Motel

Here is a photo from the 1980s that shows our condo, Palace Pier, in the background.

And looking the other way.

  1. What a great look back, I love it.

  2. One of the motels had a great restaurant with a deck that looked out onto the lake. We loved to go there on a sunny afternoon and just relax. It is so sad that they are all gone. I think it was the Cafe Mendoza! Progress is not always for the better.

  4. Makes for a very colorful underpass. Those old black and whites of days and architecture gone are very interesting, too.

  5. I always loved seeing those old motels (though, I know they were not in the best of shape - or use, by the end of their days.)
"...stunning views of a city that had yet to embrace fun.", oh so true!!!

  7. A cheerful composition with more than a nod to the historic neighborhood. Don't you wish someone had saved those old motel signs? Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
