Rubbish Tuesday

Continuing with our travels along Route 66 featuring iconic motel signs.
The Glancy - Clinton OK
Blue Swallow Motel - Tucumcari NM
Wigwam Motel - Rialto CA

November 2000 - Holbrook AZ

We drove to Holbrook on a day trip when we went to Sedona for the first time.

Last week I covered the history of the Wigwam motel chain when I posted photos from Rialto (see above).

The Wigwam Motel in Holbrook closed in 1982, and Chester Lewis died in 1986. His widow and children, however, still believed in Chester's dream, restored and reopened the 15 rooms in 1988, and continue to operate it.

  1. It's entirely different as a hotel, but it works!

  9. Wow! I remember these from the '60's! I saw them as we zipped past on vacation (Dad had to hurry up and get where we were going so we could hurry up and get back home, so we didn't stop much!)
