Travel Photo Thursday

I'm posting over at The Budget Travelers' Sandbox.

November 2010 - Istanbul Turkey

Istiklal Street is probably the most active street in Istanbul. The old "Grand rue de Pera" hosts hundreds of shops, cafes and restaurants.

The street lies between Taksim Square to the "Tunel" area.

The street is pedestranized and only has a tram running from end to end.

It can get a little crowded.

You can find many fashion brands, famous Turkish brands and also small shops for budget shoppers. Yes, that is a Burger King in the corner.

Between the buildings are laneways with lovely cafes to take a break for tea.

The recently renovated historic Markiz arcade as well as the Atlas and the Aznavur arcades are must sees if you are shopping on Istiklal street.

The Aznavur arcade is full of stores that sell everything from gifts to clothing, from jewellery to wooden furniture.

  2. Thanks for showing me this side of Istanbul, a city that's still on my list of places to see.

  3. We will be there in September so your preview was great. Soon we will be walking this street and seeing these sights ourselves. Exciting!
