Honolulu Update

We boarded the 8:30AM to LA, five hours later we were awaiting our Honolulu flight. We had just enough time to grab a bite to eat and we were back in the air for another five hour flight to Honolulu.

Arrived in Honolulu and grabbed a cab to the Maile Sky Court Hotel for one night (thank goodness) I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. I have already posted my review over at TripAdvisor. It was like being caught in a 1980s time capsule. Enough said. The only reason we stayed here was that our condo was not available until the next day and it was just a few blocks from the condo.
We headed out for a stroll and early dinner as we had been travelling for over 14 hours with a 5 hour time difference. We decided to go to one of our favourite standby's Margaritaville for a burger. Good but not great.

It was wonderful to sit outside and drink fabulous Hawaiian coffee. I had on my bucket list for this trip to try macadamia nut pancakes and they happened to be on the menu. Macadamia nut and banana pancakes with a coconut sauce. They were ok, presentation definitely needed some work. As well if you are going to feature these it would have been nicer to mix the nuts in the batter. The coconut sauce was a little weird. I would have made a maple syrup infused with coconut instead. DH had the apple cinnamon waffles that were delicious. 
Then it was time to move a couple of blocks down the street to Royal Kuhio, our favourite VI resort in Honolulu.

It was a great day to just relax and wander around Waikiki. 




Lunch again is at a favourite spot, we had to see if it was a better burger than last night.

Saturday morning, another beautiful day. We decided to wander again and then go to lunch.
The APEC conference was in full swing with all the 22 heads of state now in Honolulu. Luckily it was Saturday and any locals were avoiding Waikiki due to the road closures. Tourists were happily wandering around and there was no traffic on the main thoroughfare whenever there was a delegation coming through.

We went to Top of Waikiki for sunset. It is a revolving restaurant located on the 19th floor.
