King Tut Exhibit

BH reminded me that I hadn't blogged about the exhibit last weekend. No cameras were allowed inside.
Standing outside the AGO is a 26 foot statue of the god Anubis - the ancient Egyptian jackal-headed god of the underworld, staring impassively while snow and slush gather around his feet. Now that is so wrong, it should be sand!!
Anubis was an important figure in mythology as it was believed he was to the guide and protector of the dead.
The statue has travelled to Vienna, London and Atlanta before arrving in the Great Cold North.

We had tickets for the 10:30 viewing and as we are members we entered dbefore the general public. Tickets are almost $40 each so I bought a family membership for a year. You can go to http://www.kingtut.ca/ and see the online experience which is really, really good.

As you entered they had a huge photo of a pyramid near Giza that seemed really lifelike since we had seen the real thing in November 2007 when we went to Egypt. Above is one of my photos from that amazing trip.

My one complaint was that they let too many people in at the one time. So the exhibits as you go through are so crowded. It is a good exhibit as most of the contents have never been out of Egypt before.
There is an optional ($6 each) 3D film that you can watch. It lasted about 30 minutes and show how archaeologists discovered the tomb of the lost pharohs. it also explains how the Egyptians mummified the dead.

  1. I saw a King Tut exhibit at the Boston (Massachusetts) Science Museum that was on tour some years ago. It's one of my favorite periods in history. Would love to see it again!
