W.H. Paterson of the TTC’s Engineering Department commissioned Sigmund Serafin in 1957 to create these illustrations. The paintings were created prior to the construction of the Bloor-Danforth-University Subway line and show proposed street-level or cross-sectional views of subway stations.

Not too much imagination used with the trains travelling along the subway. He may be surprised to now see your green and white strangely shaped trains.

ReplyDeleteThis is my fourth time trying to leave a comment on this post. Blogger HATES me. These are really quite lovely. I adore the mid-century modern feel to these drawings. They are certainly from an era long gone.
