This is the Opera House in Budapest. It is currently closed for renovations and modernization.
The Hungarian State Opera House is situated in central Budapest. The perfect example of a neo-Renaissance opera house, it was originally named the Hungarian Royal Opera House. Designed by none other than 19th-century Hungarian architect - Miklós Ybl, it stands tall today and is the second-largest opera house in both Hungary and Budapest. In 1875, the construction of this opera house began, which was funded by Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria-Hungary and the city of Budapest. On the 27th of September 1884, the new house was opened to the public.
The building in itself is a work of art, with a richly decorated exterior. Elements of Baroque lends exclusivity to the wonderful build of the opera house. The paintings and sculptures inside the building were created by famous artists of Hungarian art such as - Bertalan Székely. All these together make it the finest opera house in the country. The Hungarian state opera house Budapest is also known for its acoustics. The season for opera is held each year from September to the end of June. But perhaps, the most interesting fact about the Hungarian opera house is that Ferenc Erkel, who composed the Hungarian national anthem, was the first music director here. He was also known for founding the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra.
A trivia fact - this is the balcony where Madonna sang Don't Cry For Me, Argentina.
Such a beautiful building. We visited Hungary in 2019 and I seem to remember it was already closed for renovations then. We saw plenty of other gorgeous buildings though.
