segotia - n. good friend, mate, buddy, pal. Also segocia, segosha
Came across this word while reading Dalkey Archives and had to look it up at Double Tongued. Seems it is also mentioned in At Swim, Two Boys, Angela's Ashes and Finnigan's Wake. It is also covered in The Dictionary of Irish Slang.
My husband calls me that all the time...It is a wonderful term of endearment in Ireland.
