Viva Mexico

June 2015 - Toronto ON
As mentioned I went to Viva Mexico exhibit at the ROM.
I love all things Mexican, especially the clothing and art.
We spent ten weeks in January and February 2014 in Mazatlan Mexico. You can click on the side bar for posts about our time there.
The blurb from the museum describes it as follows:
We're taking over an entire gallery to showcase our collection of Mexican textiles. It's one of the largest and most important in the world, yet few textiles from this remarkable collection have ever been displayed.
Vibrant expressions of creativity, the pieces in this exhibition combine remarkable technical skill with exquisite artistry. Over 150 stunning historic and contemporary pieces are on display, including complete costume ensembles, sarapesrebozos, textiles, embroidery, beadwork and more.
The evolution of Mexican fashion reflects the history of Mexico, where the textile arts reach back over many centuries. After the Spanish Conquest of 1521, European styles influenced the distinctive clothing of the Maya, the Aztec and other great civilizations. Contemporary Mexican textiles owe their vitality to the fusion of traditions. ¡Viva Mexico! celebrates this rich and enduring cultural legacy.
From the iconic to the innovative, ¡Viva MĂ©xico! explodes with colour, regional diversity, and bold Mexican style!

One of my passions - Frida Kahlo was there. Click here for an exhibit of her work we saw last year in San Diego.

I love this blanket on the right.

I used Mini May grunge framed texture.

I used Photoshop and adjusted the original photo by adding a grain texture, then graphic pen.  I overlaid the texture and then reduced t he opacity to 64% and added a hard light.

Texture Tuesday

Tuesday, March 19th's theme is Wise Words.
What does this mean?
Your photo must contain at least one layer of any of her textures, and it must contain words... The words can be in your photo....or you can add them in post...

We rode the Verde Canyon Railroad last week and got this photo as the train rounded a corner.
I used an overlay of Kim's texture, Violet, reduced the opacity, used filer, sketch, charcoal.
