Monday Mural

I'm linking up at Monday Mural

September 2024 - Toronto ON

I found this new mural on the campus of Toronto Metropolitan University’s (TMU) campus. It features a nearly five-story tall, realistic falcon painted over a colourful geometric background.

Jerry Rugg, the artist behind the work, is a man behind a mask of his own. Preferring to keep his face concealed, Rugg wears an owl mask serving as the face for his alter ego under the artist handle “BirdO.” Photo found online.

BirdO has featured on many Monday Mural posts.

July 2023 - Toronto ON

There was hoarding in Graffiti Alley the last couple of years while a condo (Rush) was being built. Imagine my surprise to see what they did!

The mid-2019 site clearance of a nondescript single-storey building at the northwest corner of Richmond and Augusta intersection has opened up views to Toronto's famous Rush Lane, better known as Graffiti Alley.

Photo from Urban Toronto.

Artists involved in the project include Bacon, birdO, Blackburn, Sarah Skrlj, Smolik all from Toronto.

This cute graffiti artist is on the same building.

I had crossed the street and then realized that the utility boxes were also painted.

I could see a mural inside, and a young man exiting, kindly (unwisely) held the door open for me so I managed to get this photo.

March 2022 - Toronto ON

This article makes me sad. I passed these murals every day when I was on the subway going to work, until I retired in 2011. Even now, if we take the subway downtown we pass by them at the Dundas West subway stop.

Artists, historians speak out against plans to demolish Keele St. mural wall.

Artists have been adding their work to the "Keele Wall", which lies between Dundas West Station and Keele Station along the rear walls of Bloor Street West, for more than three decades.
In 2009 I went with my BFF on an outing with our cameras to take photos of these.
Yes, real cameras, heavy ones, DSLRs. I knew nothing about murals and certainly didn't know the names of any Toronto muralists.

I haven't ever posted these as I only started doing Monday Mural in early 2013!!!!
Moses wasn't painted on the wall when I took these.

The murals continued along the lane.

Now I recognize Birdo's work immediately!
