A Claddagh ring is a traditional Irish ring that symbolizes love, loyalty, and friendship:

Heart: Represents love

Crown: Represents loyalty

Hands: Represents friendship 

The ring's design originated in Claddagh, County Galway, and the modern form was first produced in the 17th century. It's now popular around the world as a symbol of love and friendship. 

The ring can be worn in different ways to indicate the wearer's relationship status: 

Right hand, heart facing out: The wearer is single 

Left hand, heart facing in: The wearer is committed, usually after marriage

I love reading Peter Robinson's DCI Banks series. But it takes me longer to read as he is an avid music fan so I am always stopping to look up the song/artist to listen and learn more.

In Many Rivers to Cross he mentions going to a Richard Thompson concert and listing some of the songs.

I had to see what I could find out about the meaning of the song. I found an article that mentioned that Eleanor Shanley had a better version, as the song is meant for a woman to sing.

We are on part two of this family trip. We are still in our rented house in Ballyvaughan.

We went to a medieval banquet at Dunguaire Castle, a 16th-century tower house on the southeastern shore of Galway Bay in County Galway, near Kinvarra. The name derives from the Dun of King Guaire, the legendary king of Connacht.

In 1924 Dunguaire was bought and repaired by Oliver St. John Gogarty, the famous surgeon and literary figure. This was the time of the great Celtic revival in Irish literature exemplified by the works of writers such as Synge, Yeats Shaw and O'Casey. It became the venue for meetings of the literary revivalists such as W.B. Yeats, his patron Lady Gregory, George Bernard Shaw, Edward Martin and J.M. Synge. Yeats in particular believed strongly in the Celtic Bardic Tradition and set about reviving the ancient oral customs incorporating them into his plays and poetry.  


When you arrive on the Castle steps the Butler will welcome you and show you into the Castle. Savour a goblet of mead in the inner quarter while mingling with the Ladies of the Castle. After a brief history of the Castle and a musical introduction by the Castle Singers, guests climb the stairs to enter the Banquet Hall.

This was a hoot, both of them dressed liked sumo wrestlers.
