I didn't know that California Rolls were invented in Canada!
ReplyDeleteNeither did I! According to AI - The California roll was indeed invented in Canada. Japanese-born chef Hidekazu Tojo created it in Vancouver in 1971 at his restaurant (now known as Tojo's Restaurant).Tojo adapted traditional sushi to Western palates who were hesitant about raw fish and visible seaweed. He made the "inside-out" roll (rice on the outside) to hide the seaweed and filled it with cooked crab, avocado, and cucumber. He named it after the droves of Los Angeles tourists who frequented his restaurant and loved the dish.
