Regina, Saskatchewan—famously dubbed the "Queen City"—is packed with surprising history. Originally named "Pile O' Bones" in the 1880s due to the massive buffalo remains left by hunters, the city was renamed in 1882 by Princess Louise (daughter of Queen Victoria) in honor of her mother.

"The federal riding of Prince Albert is the only constituency in Canada to have had three prime ministers represent it: Sir Wilfrid Laurier (1896), William Lyon Mackenzie King (1926-1945) and John Diefenbaker (1957-1963)." - Global News

On July 29, 1910, Prime Minister Wilfred Laurier was to lay the cornerstone on the College Building at the U of S. While in Saskatoon Laurier bought a newspaper from a young John Diefenbaker who apparently exclaimed, "I can't waste any more time on you, Prime Minister. I must get about my work!"

The green portion of the SK flag represents the northern forests, while the yellow represents the golden wheat fields.

The birthplace of the Loonie is Churchbridge SK.

1916 was a big year for SK. Women earned the right to vote and Prohibition began.

During WWI, there was hostility towards both German-Canadian farmers and Ukrainian-Canadian farmers. It was assumed the latter carried ties to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In some cases, the Ukranian-Canadian farmers faced imprisonment in internment camps.

Saskatchewan got its name from the Cree word: kisiskāciwani-sīpiy meaning "swift-flowing river."

er capita, Saskatchewan produces the most NHL players compared to any other province.

The early 1880s saw one of SK's first curling clubs, it was located in the Town of Moosomin.

In 2001, Curling was named SK's official sport.

The first world title in curling was won by a Regina team (Skip: Ernie Richardson)

One of the first organized sports in SK is rumoured to be lacrosse, played by the first nations.

Saskatchewan has a District Tartan (akin to a provincial emblem). The SK Tartan has seven colours: black, white, yellow, red, green, brown, and gold.
