I was startled to read Postwar: A History of Europe Since 1945, and here's what struck me: Europe did not look at America with great admiration the way I'd been taught here. No, Europe worried that America was too focused on capitalism! And, hey, look how it has turned out...America is too focused on capitalism! And what does that lead to? It leads to people like T, representatives who are elected because they have the most money, ads and a culture that focuses on the acquisition of money, with just enough bread and circuses to keep people going to work each day.
