February 2015 - Siem Reap Cambodia

I love eating in Asian countries, the food is always so good. We were treated to a lunch by the river cruise company, Avalon, when we were in Siem Reap.

Champey is situated nearby Pub Street and just beside the old market.

April 2015 - Nashville TN

We visited the Country Music Hall of Fame earlier this month.

So I thought this car would be perfect for this week's challenge.

Webb Pierce’s heirs donated the his flashy 1962 Pontiac Bonneville convertible to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s permanent collection. Pierce already owned several rhinestone suits designed and crafted by Nudie Cohen when he paid the Hollywood tailor $20,000 to customize the car. Additions included a pair of steer horns mounted across the front grille, a hood ornament and door handles reminiscent of the six-shooters of the Old West, a saddle console and more than 150 silver dollars ornamenting the hand-tooled leather upholstery.

Rubbish Tuesday

Continuing with our travels along Route 66 featuring iconic motel signs and other landmarks.

November and December 2012 saw us taking our first winter sojourn away from cold and snowy Toronto. We drove across from Toronto to (eventually) Los Angeles and back in the spring of 2013. We made many stops along the towns of Route 66 on interstate 40.

Winter 2013 and spring 2014 saw us do the same trip but we took interstate 10, further south from Route 66. Spring 2015 did gave us a small opportunity to travel the old route.

A trip to Chicago gave us another Route 66 photo op.

In earlier years we had taken many vacations in California which also led to some Route 66 icons.

I am enjoying doing these posts as I research the hotels and motels along the way and learn many new things.

March 2015 - Coober Pedy Australia

Highlights of our day in Coober Pedy.

As mentioned in that post Coober Pedy is renowned for its below-ground residences, called "dugouts", which are built due to the scorching daytime heat. The name "Coober Pedy" comes from the local Aboriginal term kupa-piti, which means "white man's hole".



 The Serbian Orthodox Church is the town's largest and most impressive underground church, with intricate rock-wall carvings and a gorgeous vaulted ceiling

The window that appears ground level on the outside actually soars 20 feet over the church within.

March 2015 - Sydney Australia

This building was just down the street from our hotel on Martin Place.

Martin Place is a pedestrian mall in the central business district and has been described as the "love heart" of Sydney. As home to the Reserve Bank of Australia, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Macquarie Bank and other corporations, it is also a centre of business and finance. The Sydney GPO and the Seven Network's Sydney news centre are also located on Martin Place.


The Sydney General Post Office (No. 1 Martin Place) is located at the western end of Martin Place, between George and Pitt Streets. Designed by colonial architect James Barnet, the building was constructed in stages from 1866 to 1891. Barnet's building features a neo-classical sandstone facade, with a colonnade running around the building at street level. Above the centre of the 100-metre Martin Place facade is the clocktower. This building was the headquarters of the NSW postal system until 1996, when it was sold and refurbished. The building now contains shops, cafes, restaurants, and bars. Australia Post maintains a presence in the form of a "Post Shop" at the corner of Martin Place and George Street.

Government Architect James Barnet and Italian sculptor Signor Sani raised the ire of the populace by creating a series of sculptures above the Pitt Street archways of the GPO building which depicted contemporary people at work. These included a fishmonger, a sailor, a postman delivering a letter to a barmaid, a printer and an architect (who looked remarkably like Barnet himself!). A large section of the community viewed these sculptures as sacrilegious and totally inappropriate for the adornment of such a classically designed building; the fact that the building also featured bas-reliefs of Commerce, Science, Literature and the Arts as well as a giant statue of Britannia resting on a lion made no difference.

November 2010 - Istanbul Turkey

I was chatting with a friend this week and she asked about Istanbul and I realized I had never posted any photos of the Spice Market or any other food photos from that amazing city. We didn't spend long enough there.

It was a dreary late November afternoon as we arrived. It was probably only around 4 PM but like home darkness came early.

Grey and dull but these women give it a vibrant feel.

Rows of spices,oh how I wished I could have bought some! So much nicer than jars in the supermarket. But then I don't buy the jars, I like to shop at the Bulk Barn for my spices, and buy just what I will use.

Turkish Delight! I will never eat the candy bar type that we sell at home again! You know, the dark red chewy one that could pull your fillings out. I think you either love it or hate it, no in between,
