Wednesday's Words - Apostrophes

I bought my copy of The Girl who Kicked the Hornets' Nest in England as it had not yet been released in North America. Image my surprise when reading the New York Times book review section on Sunday and coming across the ad for the American cover which read The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

Now kicking a nest full of hornets would be very much more horrifying than a nest with just 1 hornet.

P.S. this morning on the Toronto subway was an ad for the North American edition, it reads Hornet's Nest but has a picture of a swarm of hornets as the background on the poster.

  1. The good news is there are still people out there who know how to use an apostrophe with a plural noun. The bad news is they don't work in North America.

You should send your photo to the North American publisher of the book!
