Signs

Wordless Wednesday Wordless Be There 2day

October 2020 - Toronto ON

Even though it is starting to show its age the historic red sign that has hung above Williams Pawnbrokers on Church St. since 1950 is rich in history.

It has had the Williams name for all its 70 years – currently owned by Howard since 1982. Howard first got into the business as a way to stay out of trouble; but being a pawnbroker has since turned into his passion – leading him to run one of the longest operating and most successful pawn shops in Canada.

  1. The sign is older than I am and the sign is still readable. We have pawn shops here too and they enjoy good business during the pandemic.

  2. There are the odd shop like that here. I remember once buying a soundtrack CD in one and finding out after that the shop owner had no idea how valuable it really was.

  4. I was terrified to go into a pawn shop a couple of years ago for the first time. I needed a pair of binoculars and I'd been told you could find them for a good price after hunting season. True, it turns out. Still, I was certain that I was standing among robbers and thieves and ne'er-do-wells.
