Friday Finds

1. Starts with F
2. Week's Favorite
3. Shiny

The first two will be the same, except we’ll work our way through the alphabet. The second can be a favorite image or activity from the week. The third will be different each time.

August 2016 - Toronto ON

I worked on Front St first at 325 Front and then at 320 Front. I'll concentrate on its most famous sights nearby, within walking distance. The blue arrows indicated where I worked.

Front St. First laid out in 1796, the street is one of the original streets of the Town of York. The street was laid out along the shoreline of Lake Ontario as it existed during that time. It remains an important street, with many important uses located along it, including the St. Lawrence Market, the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, Union Station and the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The eastern section of Front Street, in the West Don Lands, east of Cherry Street, is being rebuilt as a broad tree-lined boulevard, intended to be pedestrian friendly commercial spine of the new neighbourhood.

These photos were taken at various times over the years.

Here is Glenn Gould shivering outside the CBC Building at 250 Front. There is a studio named after him in the building.

He doesn't look any happier in the sunshine. Perhaps he's just pensive?

Funny enough I attended the Lawren Harris exhibit at the AGO this week and Glenn Gould was highlighted there.

From the 9th floor at 320 Front looking towards the Skydome on a snowy day.

Street view.

CBC building from the Intercontinental Hotel.

Looking west with Union Station in the foreground.

Royal York Hotel across from Union Station. P.S. there's some shiny going on here.

A corner of the Royal York and the Royal Bank of Canada Tower.

People scurrying to work in the RBC Tower.

One block of restaurants.

The Overdraught pub, a favourite of mine for lunch.

And across the street in front of the Convention Centre there is a row of food trucks.

OK I have to stop, and I have only covered about five blocks!

Week's Favourite - is not a new photo, it is 50 years old as my baby cousin turned 50 this week!!
My sister (RIP) is on the left and I'm on the right.

This is how she spent her birthday week.

Shiny - the shiny reflection of this brain on display at FCP downtown. Click here to see more of the Brain Project currently on display in Toronto.

  1. More great photographs showcasing a street I used to know well. I'm sure many changes have occurred on Front Street since I left. The market was a favourite.

  2. Nice visit, Jackie. Happy Birthday to you Cousin. I can't even remember my 50th anymore, can you? I Googled Mr. Gould, he was quite a fellow. I also have been inside the Artic Circle, once this summer on the Pacific Princess cruise ship. Nothing to it except $$money.
Have a nice day, I enjoyed sight seeing here this morning,

  4. Loved the pictures. I have never been to Canada so enjoy seeing pictures from there. And I really like Mr. Gould. Maybe someone should put a blanket on him in the winter....and really cool shiny...Thanks for the post.

  5. There really has been a lot of infill added onto the shoreline since Toronto's earliest days. The Gould statue was done by the same artist who did the Oscar Peterson and John McCrae statues here.

  8. Five blocks of solid fun, I say. That's neat how you can paddle board by the city.
