I did a post on the Mercer Women's Reformatory this week, and I came across this photo in my archives.

November 2018 - Barcelona Spain
Antonio Gaudi spent most of his life in Barcelona and the city boasts the largest concentration of his works in the world. His style is unique, often imitated but never matched.
Gaudi's ideas shaped the way of thinking about architecture for a whole generation. His influence on Catalan modernism was immense, creating a unique style that many have tried to replicate.

Gaudí died in 1926, leaving the church less than 25% completed and since then it has continued to be worked on by a number of architects and builders. It has been continued based on what information Gaudí had left behind (models, some sketches); however, given that Gaudí was constantly adapting his work as it progressed and the information left behind is not that detailed, it is probably best to think of the later work as inspired by or an interpretation of Gaudí’s work. Also a fire in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War burned down the workshop destroying many of the architect’s original plans and models.
The Nativity façade is probably the one place Gaudí had the most direct influence, and it is one of the three grand façades of the church. It is dedicated to the birth of Jesus and it is decorated with scenes reminiscent of the elements of life. Given that much of the work was completed after Gaudí’s death, only the crypt and Nativity façade are included in the UNESCO designation.
There were many active cranes working on it.
The amount of symbolism is overwhelming!
When completed it will have eighteen towers!
Packed inside.

Throwback Thursday
Since I am doing Throwback Thursday, I thought I would add labels to help anyone who may want to visit Toronto and/or Ontario!
August 2018 we went to Elora ON after a weekend in Stratford ON.
A.J. Casson, one of the famous Group of Seven painters once called Elora “Ontario’s most beautiful village.” And there’s a good reason for it. Perched high on the edge of a spectacular gorge and nestled along the banks of the Grand & Irvine River lies this enchanting town of Elora, Ontario. There are so many amazing things to see and do in Elora, so we thought we’d put together a guide for the ultimate weekend getaway or a day trip. It’s a perfect combination for those looking for outdoor activities as well as those who just want a leisurely stroll through a pretty town with its beautiful one-of-a-kind local shops and eateries. There are fascinating walks all around the gorge and village starting and ending at the Elora Mill and the pedestrian bridge.

Throwback Thursday

We visited Erland Lee Museum Stoney Creek ON in May 2018.
On February 12, 1897, Erland Lee (great-grandson of James & Hannah Lee) and his wife, Janet (Chisholm) Lee, invited Adelaide Hunter Hoodless to speak at a Lady’s Night meeting of the South Wentworth Farmer’s Institute at Squires Hall in Stoney Creek. Encouraged by her speech and determined to bring her message to more women, they invited her back one week later on February 19, 1897. Erland & Janet travelled around town in their cutter sleigh, hand delivering invitations to Hoodless' second speaking engagement to every woman they knew.
Based on Hoodless' suggestion, a group of women, and a few politically involved husbands, came together after the meeting to put their inspiration into action. Janet Lee penned the constitution for their new organization - the Women's Institute. The first official meeting of the Women's Institute was held in Squires Hall on February 25, 1897. Christina (Armstrong) Smith, wife of E.D. Smith, served as the first president of the WI.
