Akela Flats is a ghost town.
A souvenir shop building exterior has a long false front painted to look like a row of Old West storefronts, complete with goofy names and odd human figures.
Since it was to be a meandering drive as we had lots of time, we planned on stopping in Deming but we missed the exit and ended up on a side road for about 20 KM.
I chose a Mexican restaurant in Lordsburg for lunch. It took us a couple of tries to find it as it is part of the Kranberry Restaurant.
Then we planned to go to the welcome centre on the other side of the highway once we got gas at Love's to capture a mural. But we missed that turn too!
There are lots of signs warning you of dust storms in the area.
We drove through the ghost town of Steins, but it is all fenced off as the buildings are very dilapidated.
There were people living there. There was also no trespassing and no drones signs.
